Good Reviews for Planet Earth

Hello Students!

We have spent the last two class periods learning about the Earth's physical processes (landforms, plate tectonics, weathering, erosion, the water cycle, climate, etc.)

You  have done a great job covering a lot of material in a short amount of time.  Here are 7 things to help you review this material:

1. How Landforms are Created:
Can you notice the following in this picture: subduction, creation of volcanoes, spreading, and chemical weathering?

(Click on the above title and this will take you to a website that discusses what happens when plates collide.  The website has more information than we discussed in class but will help you get the bigger picture.  However, you will only be accountable for what we discussed in class and what you read in your textbook.)

3. The Water Cycle:
Evaporation=changing of liquid water into vapor or gas
Condensation=changing water vapor into liquid water
Precipitation=when clouds release water in the form of rain, snow or sleat

4. Important Latitudes and Longitudes:

Prime Merdian: 0 degrees Longitude

Equator: 0 degrees Latitude

Tropic of Cancer: 23 1/2 degrees North
Tropic of Capricorn: 23 1/2 degrees South

Good question to consider when looking at latitude and longitude:
How does latitude and longitude affect climate?
5. Earth's Rotation
Earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees.
The Earth completes a complete rotation every 24 hours.

6.  Earth's Revolution
Earth makes one complete revolution around the sun every 365 days
Review: What is a "solstice"?  What is an "equinox"?

7. Climate:

The following three factors greatly influence an area's climate:
a. Location (what is the latitude and longitude?)
b. Altitude (what is the area's altitude?)
c. Proximity to Water (how close is area to a water source?)

Have fun reviewing the information and pictures!
